BMS Rotary Seed Slotter

The BMS Rotary Seed Slotter is a precision overseeding tool that cuts perfectly flat-bottomed slots ½ in (≈ 13 mm) deep—exactly where bent and fine-turf grasses germinate best. Its rotary drum creates thousands of uniform pockets in minutes, giving greenkeepers and grounds staff a faster, more seed-efficient way to repair disease scars, dry patches, and thin areas. The authentic BMS Rotary Lawn Slotter is now only available with a split handle.

Key Features & Benefits

  • Flat-Bottom Slot — seed “turns” during the first week,
    promoting rapid, upright rooting
  • Optimum ½ in Depth — delivers ideal moisture and temperature for < 7-day germination
  • Rotary Action — covers large areas quickly while keeping slot spacing consistent
  • 50 % Seed Saving — precise slotting means less broadcast wastage when overseeding
  • Lightweight Frame — easily manoeuvres around greens, collars, and approaches
  • Built for Pros — heavy-gauge steel drum, sealed bearings, and powder-coat finish for season-long reliability

How It Works · 4-Step Process

  1. Run the Rotary Seed Slotter over the target area to create flat-bottom slots.
  2. Broadcast bent/fine grass seed so it drops into every slot.
  3. Apply dry top-dressing sand to fill and protect the seed.
  4. Finish with a Levelawn/Lute for a perfectly even surface.

Typical Applications

  • Repairing disease scars and dry spots on golf greens
  • Targeted overseeding of walk-off areas and tees
  • Fine-turf renovation on bowling & croquet lawns

Practical Application

Brian Dunne from Adare Manor Golf Club highly recommends the BMS Static Seed Slotter for use on greens, tees, collars, and aprons. According to Brian, it’s one of the best purchases he made this year for turf care.

Hello everyone, Brian Dunne here from Adare Manor Golf Club. I wanted to take a moment to share my experience with the BMS Static Seed Slotter, a tool that has become indispensable in our turf care regimen. I believe this could be a game-changer for many of you as well.

Identifying Problem Areas

We all know that maintaining a golf course is no small feat. From disease scars to dry patches, problem areas are inevitable. The first thing we do is identify these spots on our greens, tees, collars, and aprons.

Preparing the Ground

Once we’ve marked out the areas that need attention, we use the BMS Static Seed Slotter to create holes. The flat-bottomed slots it creates are at an optimum depth of 1/2″ (approximately 13mm), which is ideal for seed germination.

Seed Application

After preparing the ground, I take some of my bent seed and spread it generously over the slotted areas. The flat-bottomed slots ensure that the seed ‘turns’ during the rapid germination period, which is usually less than 7 days. This turning action encourages stronger root growth, making the turf more resilient in the long run.

Topdressing and Levelling

The next step is to apply some dry topdressing sand over the seeded area. This not only fills the slots but also provides a protective layer for the seed. Finally, we level off the area using a level lute to ensure an even surface, which is crucial for optimal growth.

The Results

I’ve found that the seed germinates more rapidly and the turf shows stronger growth when we use the BMS Static Seed Slotter. It’s a cost-effective solution as well, as its precise design results in a 50% saving of grass seed when overseeding.

“I can confidently say that the BMS Static Seed Slotter is one of the best purchases I’ve made this year. It has streamlined our overseeding process, improved the quality of our turf, and ultimately saved us both time and resources. I highly recommend it for any course looking to improve their turf quality.”
